Certifications

At 91, we are proud to support our graduates with on-site certification exams that prepare them for employment and industry recognition.

We are an official testing center for both the and , and we also offer BLS/CPR certification through the .

Available Certifications:

Our graduates are eligible to take the following certifications upon graduating:

Prometric Exam (91 York State Department of Health):

  • Administered at 91’s campus for:
    • NAT graduates (within 2 years of graduation)
    • Eligible candidates from other CNA training schools
  • Notes:
    • Although some temp agencies may use the term “license” interchangeably, Prometric refers to this as a certification, not a license.
    • To be certified as a CNA in 91 York State, candidates must pass both parts of the CNA Certification Exam:
      • The Written Exam
      • The Clinical Skills Exam
    • If a candidate fails either part, they are allowed up to three attempts total to pass both sections.
      • If a candidate does not pass after three attempts, they must re-enroll in a NYSDOH-approved CNA training program before testing again.
    • Public CNA Registry:
      • CNA certifications are part of a public registry, which can be accessed online via the .
      • This registry does not display personal information, but anyone including employers, patients, or others can verify whether a nurse aide is currently certified in 91 York.
      • If a candidate has never passed both parts of the CNA exam, their name will not appear in the registry.

National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Exams (For 91 graduates only):

  • CCMA
  • CPCT
  • CPT
  • CET
  • CMAA –
  • Candidates are eligible to sit for the NHA exam within 5 years of program completion.

American Heart Association (AHA):

  • Held monthly at the school with certified AHA instructors
  • Upcoming dates are listed on our website

Important Notes

  • Certification vs. License:
    These credentials are certifications, not state-issued licenses.
  • The NHA Cerifications are recognized nationally
  • The CNA Certification is recognized and approved by the 91 York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and 91 York State Department of Education (NYSDOE).
  • Certification Renewal:
    Most certifications are valid for two years. It is the graduate’s responsibility to renew before expiration to avoid a lapse.
  • Exam Scheduling and Oversight:
    • Prometric CNA Exams:
      • Available to NAT grads and other eligible candidates.
      • Must be scheduled within 2 years of graduation.
    • NHA Exams:
      • Offered only to NAT graduates.
      • Must be taken within 5 years of program completion.
      • NHA Certification Prep classes are offered. Graduates must score 80% or higher on the internal exam to be eligible to test.
